For clients such as the Zurich Festival, the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra and the Eclat Festival Stuttgart, Wiebke Pöpel has created numerous works in which the cinematic means and narrative are individually tailored to the topic and type of project. What the films have in common is their brilliant visual language and the high musicality in the montage.
As part of the Lachenmann Perspectives project, Wiebke Pöpel worked together with prestigious musicians, conductors and orchestras such as the Staatsorchester Stuttgart, the Ensemble Modern Orchestra, the Radio Berlin Symphony Orchestra and the Arditti Quartet.
The project has received several awards, including the Music Edition Prize 2019.
SCHLOSSMEDIALE WERDENBERG 2012-2022
International Festival of Early Music, New Music and Audiovisual Art
Every year in early summer, internationally renowned composers, musicians and artists of all genres come together in Werdenberg near St. Gallen, to join a unique festival under the artistic direction of Mirella Weingarten. The festival takes place at the 800-year-old Werdenberg Castle in the scenically unique environment above the Rhine Valley.
Wiebke Pöpel has been filming this highlight of the Swiss festival summer for more than ten years. Year after year, she weaves together the artists’ performances, the exhibited works of art and installations, as well as the impressive location itself into a cinematic work of art.
About 50 short portraits of artists and composers have been published so far as part of Schlossmediale Werdenberg, including Donata Wenders, Jonas Burgert, Bruno Walpoth, Isabel Mundry, Heiner Goebbels, Manuela Kerer and Helmut Oehring.
